Rachael Martin, who has an eight-year-old son, told police she funded her lifestyle by working as a prostitute but later admitted the thefts
underwent complete body overhaul in just weeks, including £4,000 on breast surgery, £1,700 on dental surgery, and liposuction
She also spent £670 at exclusive jewellers Tiffany, and £506 on a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes
The law graduate was jailed for 52 weeks

When she was arrested Martin, 24, from St Austell in Cornwall, told police she earned money as an escort in Bristol, adding that she was ‘a common prostitute’.

But the claim was a cover for her spending sprees, said prosecutor Iain Leadbetter.

Recorder Jeremy Wright jailed Martin, who has an eight-year-old son, for 52-weeks, telling her she had demonstrated a ‘concerted, clever and serious breach of trust’.

Mr Wright said he gave Martin credit for pleaded guilty to 25 counts of theft – on the day her trial was due to start.

Rant … Conservative cabinet minister Andrew Mitchell pushing his bicycle

A MILLIONAIRE Cabinet minister was threatened with arrest after an astonishing foul-mouthed rant at armed cops in Downing Street.

Chief Whip Andrew Mitchell — newly-promoted by PM David Cameron — raged: “You’re f***ing plebs.”

The cycling Tory’s outburst came the day after two women PCs were shot dead.

Foul-mouthed Mr Mitchell yelled the four-letter abuse at cops because they wouldn’t let him pedal his bike out of Downing Street.

He exploded with fury when armed police guarding No10 refused to open the street’s famous gates.

The PC targeted by the tirade reported to his superiors that Mitchell told him: “Best you learn your f***ing place. You don’t run this f***ing government.

“You’re f***ing plebs.”

An eyewitness said Mr Mitchell, 56, also branded them “morons”.

Space Shuttle Endeavour Arrives at NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center

NASA’s Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA) with space shuttle Endeavour mounted atop arrived Sept. 20 at the agency’s Dryden Flight Research Center on Edwards Air Force Base in California.

Following an overnight stay, the SCA and Endeavour will salute the Edwards Air Force Base area early Friday, Sept. 21 with a low flyby northbound to Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay area. Next the aircraft will travel south, making a pass over NASA’s Ames Research Center, Vandenberg Air Force Base and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory before heading into the Los Angeles area.

Finally, the SCA and Endeavour will land about noon PDT at Los Angeles International Airport, for an arrival ceremony before Endeavour is taken off the SCA and transported to its permanent home at the California Science Center next month.

September 20, 2012 - http://www.euronews.com/ French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault says he is prepared to call for a wider European ban on genetically modified produce following an alarming new study that throws the safety of the food into doubt.

The report claimed that 200 rats fed GM corn produced by US firm Monsanto had suffered tumours as big as ping-pong balls.

Ayrault has ordered that the scientific validity of the study be checked by the country’s health watchdog.

So far Monsanto has not responded to the findings.
But scientist Joel Spiroux has called for new rules on GM foods:

“Current regulation tests are conducted over three months, but the really serious diseases, such as the death of rats due to tumors, occur only in the fourth month,” said Spiroux.

“Therefore these tests give no real information about the effects of genetically modified food on health over a lifetime.”

The study has also been forwarded to the European Food Safety Authority.

Currently, 46 varieties of GM products are allowed in the EU. They include corn, cotton and canola oil varieties and one type of potato and beetroot.

The Government has ordered potentially vital information about whether murdered former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko had links with the British intelligence services to be withheld from his inquest.

Scotland Yard investigated claims that Mr Litvinenko, who was poisoned with radioactive Polonium 210 in 2006, was in regular contact with MI6 or MI5 prior to his death as part of an inquiry which led to murder charges against two Russian citizens – both former KGB agents.

But a preliminary hearing for the long-delayed inquest into Mr Litvinenko’s death, due to start in the new year, heard that Whitehall officials have asked for the findings relating to the intelligence agencies to be removed from the information due to be made public during the hearings.

The attempt to shroud any dealings with the former Russian agent in secrecy was disclosed as Mr Litvinenko’s widow, Marina, said she wanted the proceedings to establish once and for all whether her husband was the victim of a “targeted assassination” on British soil by a foreign state.

Sheik Hussein Obama Uses Pakistani Television to Denounce Anti-Islam Film

The U.S. embassy in Pakistan is airing a public service advertisement on Pakistani television that features President Barack Obama denouncing an anti-Islam video that has sparked protests across the Muslim world.

The U.S. State Department said the embassy spent $70,000 to run the 30-second announcement, which features the president talking about America’s history of religious tolerance. In the same ad, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is seen saying the U.S. government had nothing to do with the inflammatory video that insults the Prophet Muhammad.

The low-budget Internet video was produced by an anti-Muslim filmmaker in California. It first sparked protests last week in Cairo and the Libyan city of Benghazi, where U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other embassy personnel were killed. Since then, anti-U.S. protests have spread as far as Indonesia.

Elsewhere Thursday, police clashed with protesters in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, as a crowd of more than 1,000 students tried to reach a walled-off area of the city that houses foreign embassies and government offices. A VOA correspondent in Lahore, Pakistan’s second city, said university students also gathered there to denounce the United States. Similar protests erupted in Afghanistan and Iran.

Pakistani media say 15,000 people are expected to march on Islamabad’s diplomatic enclave Friday and that the government has called on the national army to protect the area. The day has been designated “a day of love for the Prophet,” with police urging demonstrators to protest peacefully.

Meanwhile, the French news agency says police in Paris have banned two anti-U.S. protests planned for Saturday, including one in front of the city’s Grand Mosque. France’s interior minister has said he will ban all protests over the video.

The French weekly Charlie Hebdo featured several images of the Prophet Muhammad in its Wednesday issue, including several of him naked.

In response to the magazine’s actions, the French government announced it is closing its embassies, consulates, cultural centers and schools in 20 countries Friday as a precautionary measure.
