SOUVENIR FOR MP: Philimon (sixth left) presents a souvenir to Alexander witnessed by councillors and guests.
KAPIT: Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi praised Kapit District Council for taking the initiative to organise Local Agenda 21 and Community Development programmes for the rural community to participate in.
“The council has held them to cover all districts including Song, Belaga and Kapit and I hope its objectives are achieved,” Alexander said when officiating at the launch of Local Agenda 21 and the Community Service and Development programmes.
Organised by Kapit District Council, the programme was held Friday evening at Iban longhouse, Rumah Panjai Nanga Senuang Ili (Rumah Berauh) about 20 minutes by speedboat up the Batang Rajang from Kapit town.
Alexander said the government had good policies which the council was carrying out to benefit the people.
He was happy to see many councillors attend the programme to show their support for it.
“Their commitment shows they are fully aware of their responsibility as grassroots leaders appointed to assist political leaders in looking into the welfare of the people in their areas. Though Kapit is remote, our councillors are good grass root leaders,” he commented.
The programme reached the most remote areas in Katibas, Baleh including Sungai Asap in Belaga District. Councillors visit to share their experience and ideas to improve the delivery system and better serve the people.
Alexander called on the
people to vote for the BN government that brought them progress.
“We must not allow ourselves to be easily influenced by the issues raised by the opposition that happen in other parts of the country. Instead, we must focus on our own development needs that could be achieved if we support the government,” said Alexander.
Earlier, he commissioned the newly completed steel bridge of Rumah Nanga Senuang Ili (Rumah Beraoh Anak Bili), Batang Rajang, built at a cost of RM145,000.
The function was also attended by Walikota of Kapit District Council, Philimon Nuing, SAO Joseph Ikan representing Kapit Resident Dahim Nadot, SAO Vanessa Joseph representing Kapit District Officer, heads of government departments, village headmen from lower Pelagus, longhouse folks and guests.

The CBI on Friday received a formal complaint from Defence Ministry on the alleged violation of Official Secrets Act (OSA) with regard to secret documents provided by arms dealer Abhishek Verma’s estranged business associate C Edmond Allen which may result in yet another case against him.
The CBI is going through the complaint and may register a case soon for violation of OSA allegedly by Verma, sources said.
The sources said Defence Ministry has not specifically named Verma in its complaint and has requested the CBI to probe the alleged “leakage of the secret documents”. US-based attorney C Edmond Allen, who was a business associate of Verma, had provided documents which deal with acquisition and future plans of the defence forces to CBI and other investigating agencies, alleging that these were provided by Verma to show his influence in defence circles.
The leaked documents relate to acquisition plans for next five years for the Indian Air Force including acquisition of UAVs and related system besides infrastructure development for weapon systems. While the CBI has booked Verma in two separate cases against Verma and his wife Ancea Neascu, the Enforcement Directorate has slapped money laundering charges against the duo.
