In his Three day visit to India , US Deputy Secretary for Defence Dr. Ashton B. Carter again pushed for possible of Patriot BMD systems to India , what has left defence experts surprised is that Americans have been offering Patriot (PAC-2/ PAC-3) for last few years and even after repeatedly been turned down by India they are still pushing for a deal .
India had keen interest in purchase of the Arrow -2 BMD from Israel few years back but it was turned down by Americans since then they have been pushing Patriot BMD systems to India . It was reported some time back that Indian army and Indian air force were not keen on purchase of Patriot BMD systems due various factors including technical limitations .
Rakesh sharma our defence experts said that ” Patriot BMD systems have never interested Indian armed forces and India successful tested its own ballistic missile defence system and will be inducting them soon . and recent interest shown by India towards Russian S-400 system might have prompted american response ”
