AHLEQUAH — Earlier this month, a number of area residents sighted strange lights hovering in the sky over the northern and eastern sections of the county, prompting a flurry of chatter on Facebook about UFOs.
Last week, Elizabeth Dreadfulwater was walking the track at Briggs with her boyfriend, Jared Philpott; her cousin, Jack Roberts; and Roberts’ girlfriend, when they witnessed a strange light in the sky.
Wondering whether anyone else had seen the phenomenon, Dreadfulwater described her experience on the Daily Press Facebook page.
“It was orange and dull, [and] no sound was coming from it,” said Dreadfulwater. It began to fly down toward us. We began to go back to the car because we got scared. When it finally reached the track, an airplane was coming from the opposite direction and they crossed each other. Suddenly, the strange craft had blinking lights, yet still seemed strange; there was something different about it.”
Dreadfulwater said the group then drove back to her boyfriend’s house, which is around the corner from the track.
“I had to go home, so I got in my car and left,” said Dreadfulwater. “When I got to Melody Mountain, I saw the same light. I didn’t pay attention until it stopped. It was on the right, flying over the highway when I came up on the hill, and it stopped and went left, back across the highway. It zig-zagged a few more times, until I was almost next to it. It stopped and hovered. I just stared at it, trying to figure out what it was, when suddenly, it dropped something – a glowing ball of light.”’
