In Wine Country, the palate takes the lead. It is a GPS of sorts that directs you to the tastiest spots, one that guides you to the most sublime wine adventures.
What follows is a glimpse of some spots that have particular palate appeal. Exploring them is its own fun experience, whether you indulge or not.
Sophie’s Cellars in Monte Rio is a rare find that’s full of surprises and worth exploring. The biggest surprise came when a wealthy man who was staying at the nearby Bohemian Grove bought $20,000 worth of wine in a single afternoon. At Sophie’s Cellars, you can buy the best of California’s boutique wines, and the artisan cheeses are an adventure as well.

Ex-bachelor Ben Flajnik and his partners Mike Benziger and Danny Fay of Envolve Winery have opened a tasting room on Sonoma Plaza.
Tastings range from $5 to $15 and the doors are open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Will you actually be able to spot Flajnik and chat up the former TV reality star? Who knows, but the chardonnay and the pinot noir are standouts.
