Undated image provided by the Gemini Observatory via the journal Nature shows an artist’s conception of stars moving in the central regions of a giant elliptical galaxy that harbors a supermassive black hole.
Washington – The US space agency said on Wednesday it is preparing to launch next month a sophisticated orbiting telescope that will use high energy X-ray vision to hunt for black holes in the universe.
The project aims to study the “hottest, densest and most energetic phenomena in the universe, like for example black holes and the explosions of massive stars,” said Fiona Harrison, principal investigator for the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR).
The launch is scheduled for June 13 from Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands.
“NuSTAR will open a whole new window on the universe,” said Harrison, who is a professor at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.
It will be the “first telescope to focus high energy X-rays. As such it will make images that are 10 times crisper and 100 times more sensitive than any telescope that has operated in this region of the spectrum.”
The observatory is designed to launch on a rocket from underneath the belly of an aircraft. Both the Pegasus XL rocket and the L-1011 Stargazer aircraft are made by Orbital Sciences Corporation.
A flight readiness review is set for June 1, and if all goes well the Stargazer will fly from Vandenberg Air Force Base in central California to Kwajalein June 5-6 for the launch about a week later.

A telescope’s angular resolution is its ability to distinguish small details of a distant object. The Hubble Space telescope, for example, has an angular resolution of about 100 milliarcseconds.
That’s good but by no means the best. In fact, the telescopes with the highest angular resolutions are interferometric radio telescopes, made up of several dishes spread over thousands of kilometres.
Known as very long baseline interferometers (VLBIs), the biggest boast an angular resolution some two orders of magnitude better than Hubble.
So what to point them at? Today, Hayden Rampadarath and pals at the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research at Curtin University in Australia say they’ve pointed their interferometric radio telescope at Gliese 581, a red dwarf star some 20 light years from here.
What makes Gliese 581 interesting is its planets, which include two superEarths that probably sit on the edge of their habitable zone.
That makes them good candidates for life. And if this life is anything like our own, it may already be broadcasting at radio frequencies that we can tune in to.
Although VLBI has extraordinary angular resolution, it has never been used to look for signs of extraterrestrial intelligence. So this is an important proof-of-principle step.
The G-Global project evoked a wide response in the Russian expert community.
Observers refer to a proposal on a new world order voiced by the President of Kazakhstan at the Astana Economic Forum as very timely. Some of them have already named G-Global a strategy of global justice in economic, social and political spheres, which is desired by the entire world community. The new Kazakh initiative can turn into an effective model of relations in a global world, Russian political analysts believe.

A small asteroid had a close encounter with Earth on Tuesday, according to NASA scientists.
The 5-meter space rock, called 2012 KP42, was not spotted until a day before it came within 14,400 kilometers of Earth. Its closest approach to Earth was less than one-26th of the average distance between the planet and the moon, which is 386,000 kilometers.
However, given its diminutive size, experts say it was unlikely to cause significant damage to the Earth anyway.
The close call on Tuesday came only a day after another asteroid zipped by the planet. This asteroid, called 2012 KP24, was approximately 21 meters wide and zoomed by Earth at relatively safe 51,000 kilometers.
The closest recorded approach of an asteroid was in March 2004, when 6-meter asteroid passed the Earth only 6,500 kilometers away.
According to MSNBC, astronomers believe that space rocks would have to be 140 meters across or bigger in order to cause widespread devastation. A much bigger object would cause global destruction.

ST. GEORGE ISLAND — Tourists on St. George Island claim to have encountered visitors from further away than the typical vacationer.
On May 10, someone posted an account of a close encounter with something unknown in the sky over Franklin County:
“I like to get great sunset pictures, from the Florida coast, so every night at the beach house I would go up on top to the viewing area to watch the sunset, to see if it would be a memorable one or not…
“… as I was looking northwest to watch for the sunset, an object which appeared to be a black orb with a flaming bottom streaked over my head from out over the Gulf, headed inland. I pointed my camera at it and zoomed the lens, and snapped a picture, before the object was beyond my sight. There was no sound at all. I have no idea how high the object was but it appeared to be about airplane height.”
The alleged photo was not posted with the report.
The sighting was reported to MUFON, the Mutual UFO Network, an American nonprofit organization that investigates reported UFO sightings. MUFON maintains an online archive of reported UFO sightings and provides a portal for people to report their sightings, abductions etc.
A search of MUFON’s online records going back to 1995 reveals the latest encounter on the island is only one of four alleged UFO sightings reported in Franklin County over the last 17 years.

The White House said President Barack Obama misspoke on Tuesday when he referred to a ‘Polish death camp’ while honoring a Polish war hero.

WARSAW, Poland — Poland’s prime minister said Wednesday he wasn’t completely satisfied with a White House explanation that President Barack Obama misspoke when he referred to “Polish death camps” during a ceremony honoring a World War II hero, saying he wants a “stronger, more pointed” response.
The phrasing is considered hugely offensive in Poland, where Nazi Germany murdered Poles, Jews and others in death camps it built during World War II on Polish and German territory. Poles have responded with outrage, maintaining Obama should have called it a “German death camp in Nazi-occupied Poland,” to distinguish the perpetrators from the location
David Cameron’s former communications chief was detained for questioning at Govan police station in Glasgow on Wednesday by officers from Strathclyde Police.
The force’s Facebook page announced the arrest of a 44-year-old man, saying he had been arrested and charged with perjury.
A number of comments were posted on the site while more than 40 people indicated that they “like” it.
One of them was indicated as Lynn Sheridan. Mr Coulson’s arrest centres on claims about phone hacking he made during his evidence at Tommy Sheridan’s trial in 2010. The politician has a sister called Lynn.
Another person commenting on the page wrote: “is ‘liking’ this a possible contempt of court…?”

The French President says Paris is also considering military intervention in Syria. It comes as a disappointment to those who hoped Francois Hollande would reverse his predecessor’s aggressive foreign policy, and focus on problems at home.
WHAT DID THEY EXPECT? THERE IS NO LEFT AND RIGHT ONLY THEM AND US! ITS A REAL SHAME THE SHEEPLE STILL DON’T GET IT.
